You may have noticed that we’ve made a few changes around here.
We were busy this weekend, working on the technical aspects of synthesizing Web Start Women and Codagogy into the Women’s Coding Collective. If you missed our announcement leading up to the it, here’s the rundown:
In the past two years, several thousand women and girls have participated in our events and taken our classes, either here in the Boston area or online. Teenagers, recent college grads, mid-career gals, and more than a few intrepid grandmas have learned the basics of web development with us. Not bad for a group that debuted as a potluck picnic in a park, eh?
We created Web Start Women to encourage women entrepreneurs in our local community to learn tech skills that would further their businesses. Then we built Codagogy to make web programming education accessible to women anywhere and everywhere. These initiatives grew and developed so that a new name was needed to encompass all that they had become, hence the Women’s Coding Collective.
The WCC is an even stronger, more focused web development community for women coders and creators.
Here are the plans we have on the horizon:
- Continuing to expand our online course offerings (PHP is next in line!)
- Making entrepreneurship talks at the WCC Boston available via streaming for all you go-getters who can’t join us in-person
- Going live with a jobs board we’ve been working on to connect companies that care about diverse workforces with our awesome members
- Creating a scholarship system to help reach more women who might not otherwise be able to participate in courses
Stay tuned for more details and in the meantime, we’ll see you in class!
